Secret Society Plan Brunches Wearing Squirrel Masks!

My wonderful friend and fabby dab hat maker Silly Hats Only, Alexander Kaiser sent me a link to this article and photos posted at the Laughing Squid by Rusty Blazenhoff, A Secret Society Plans Civilized Brunches in Unusual Circumstances (original post June 25, 2012).

Well, well, well.  The elusive Alameda Sea Squirrel eating a cocktail weenie, wearing a squirrel mask and Brunch-y wear. Rusty Blazenhoff describes a curious invite to a secret brunch society whose motto is, Civilized Brunches in Unusual Circumstances.  And taking a page from Secret Squirrels, (and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon) she’s got a squirrel mask on and everything.  Very hush, hush.

All I have to ask is, “Where is my invite people?!”

The Paint-In is a community outreach initiative featuring 150 invited professional and emerging artists from Victoria and surrounding areas. The Queen a fan of wacky artist’s stuffed animal portraits – I’m in good company!?

I came across this article written for MailOnline by Sadie Whitelocks.

As it turns out ,Queen Elizabeth II is a fan of wacky animal portraits, and I feel like I’m in good company.

I hope Queen Elizabeth II comes across my website and collects one of my wacky animal paintings to add to her collection. Mine are also beautifully framed and I too can deliver to Windsor Castle.  I hope you love squirrels, Your Majesty!

Charlotte Cory‘s potty artwork, which fuses Victorian portraiture and taxidermy, is fast becoming a hit with collectors all over the world, including the Queen.

Although some might find the scenes of animals in humanised scenarios disturbing, the British artist has witnessed growing popularity since producing the works and her quirky images can now be found emblazoned on a range of goods from playing cards to tea towels.

So I get the call.

Jen Clark, a wonderful girl and the fantabulous makeup artist (Pacific Makeup Group) phones to discuss our upcoming makeup session for a photo shoot, and would I be Lady Gaga on a car decorated like a giant swan for Reflections Hair Design at the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade (June 02, 2012).  She says this in almost one giant breath.

I’m thinking – this is either going to be a really bad move, or  my life’s calling.

Now that it’s over, I’m wondering how I can get a job riding around on floats all the time. You know, like in different cities around the world wearing full costume and makeup. My husband informs me, yah, they call them beauty pageants. Oops, too late for that. And then the penny drops as to why I catch myself engrossed in television shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

I just heard myself say all that in an East Texas accent, ya’ll.

Yes, I have problems, ya’ll.

I embrace big hair and false eyelashes, ya’ll .

I love Dolly ya’ll!

Anyhoo.

Reflections Hair Design is owned and operated by June Kolodziejak. She and her husband Darryl (float driver), Amanda (paper mache expert) , Dillon (candy thrower) and their whole team at Reflections made a giant swan out of paper mache and feathers, including a whole head and tail. They put a lot of work into that swan, and I wanted to make sure I helped them showcase their company as best I could.

The morning started at Reflections (across from Windsor Park, Oak Bay) at 7:00 am for makeup and hair. Jen Clark did my makeup, and June did the hair.

And then we went on the parade ride, and it was over. And then I saw Alice in Wonderland and the Giant Rabbit, and it was just another surreal day at Willows Beach. You know what I mean :-)

Lady Gaga (Carollyne Yardley), Rabbit, and Alice in Wonderland. Something too weird about that....
