Chris Tyrell, Making It! Case studies of Successful Canadian Visual Artists (with Kristine Paton and a mention of Carollyne Yardley)

So yah, this is a stretch for publicity, but WHATEV!

My friend and photographer Tony Bounsall emailed me to tell me I was mentioned in Chris Tyrell’s latest book called Making It! Case studies of Successful Canadian Visual Artists.

I thought this a bit premature, ’cause I’ve only been painting on the ground for about 18 months.
But then Tony explained I was mentioned as having helped another artist with their marketing.

AHA!

My former life and my new life merge yet again.

A special thanks to artist and former client Kristine Paton for mentioning me during her interview for the book!

Several years ago, my company Star Global (retired) used to work on her website, and I recommended she use Constant Contact as an easy email marketing system.

I bought copy of the book today, and look forward to reading all the tips and case studies, especially the section and interview with the fabo Kristine Paton!

Editors Note: When ya have a freaky spelling of yer name – after a while, you just give up.
But for anyone who cares – Carollyne is spelled with two LL’s, as in HELL, and one N as in HEAVEN.

Shanice Wolters, Carollyne Yardley and paintings

I received an email a few weeks ago from a lovely lady named Shanice Wolters, a Journalism and History of Art student at the

University of Victoria. She wrote to me, and said,

“I became fascinated with your work early last year, and have admired it vastly since. As a final project for my Journalism course I am to write and sell a profile on a person who interests me. I was hoping to write about your work and career in the art industry.”

I was like, HOLY MOLY  - A FAN!

Needless to say, I was very honored, and happy to provide an interview.

Along with this, Shanice also contacted Ellen Manning, Art Director, Victoria Emerging Art Gallery, for a secondary voice.

My work is available for viewing and sale there, and a having recently sold piece, it was the perfect spot for a photo shoot.

Many thanks again to Shanice for the opportunity to talk about my artwork – I wish you the very best of success in your career, and I know we will cross paths again in the art world!

Psyche and Cupid – in progress

I’m a maniac, maniac at the easel.
And I’m painting like I’ve never painted before.

Adapted lyrics from the song Maniac, everything feels relative, except that I stay fairly dry while painting.

This next painting is in progress with the black and white layer (awaiting colour). It is called Psyche and Cupid (my interpretation). Whether or not I keep the name by the time it’s complete, remains to be seen.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hanging with two Aliens?

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hanging with two Aliens?

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hanging with two Aliens?

So obviously I see things a bit differently. And missed my calling as a reporter for the National Examiner (as opposed the Enquirer).

My eyes adjust to shape and shadow, and turn people heads into squirrels for goodness sake.

So it only made me laugh, while I was reading the newspaper and came across this photo spread called, Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery (A2, National Post, Wednesday, January 11, 2012).

The article was comparing photos of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, both posing for similar photos ops (riding horses, posing with guns etc.).

I was looking at the photo of Kim Jong-un, and thinking, “Wow, when did he start hanging out with aliens? Does anybody know this? Well, they must, it’s in the newspaper? Huh, how weird that it hasn’t been turned into a big deal.” Well, then I stared, and stared at the photo thinking I must be nuts. It finally came into form that what I was seeing was a fellow with a giant hat and his face turned downward.

Anyhow, I was going to do a crazy painting with this as the subject matter, and I still might (if you see anyone else rip me off let me know). But I have three other things I’m working on, and this was too good not to just share it now.

So, can you see the Pitbull Alien and Cyclops? I have drawn around in blue pen in case you need extra help.

Thank you Art Collector and Ellen Manning at the Victoria Emerging Art Gallery

Morning Glory, New painting by Carollyne Yardley, Pop Surrealism

Fresh on the heels of  The Dovekeeper, comes this one called Morning Glory. I was going to call it something a bit more rude, but my good friend and photographer Jen Steele, came up with this moniker instead. Much more family friendly.
