Wonder Woman revelation – Courtesy of YouTube
Courtesy of YouTube, I realized just how much the early years subconsciously shape your adult life by watching television shows. I know that everything you encounter along the way, both good and bad shapes you, but this was really a quantifiable eye-opener.
In addition to comic books, the character Wonder Woman was featured in the 1975 to 1979 television adaptation starring Lynda Carter. I loved that show so much: the song, the boobs, the spin, the outfit – her life was mine to be had at 6 years old. My mom (Santa) made me an outfit that I still have today. I also have another costume that I’ve worn on Halloween from ages 18-36 (updated with fresh pieces over time of course) I haven’t seen the show in 30 years, but thanks to YouTube, I got to see a few episodes. The spin, the lasso, the boots, the headband and wristbands with stars – I realized how much my six year old mind had been shaped by these symbols of consumption (love it when an article finally ties in with the title of yer’ blog!). I won’t name them all, but a few notable influences:The bun during work hours | Curly 70’s hair for going out | Turtlenecks (if you know me, you get it) |  Major Steve Trevor (if you know me, you get it) |   business logo (Star Global) |Live on Paradise Island!Â
Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world’s waiting for you,
and the power you possess.
Â
In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.
Â
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.
Â
Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.
Â
Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned upon you.
And the magic that you do.
Â
Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fold,
Change their minds, and change the world.
Â
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You’re a wonder, Wonder Woman.
