So I get the call.
Jen Clark, a wonderful girl and the fantabulous makeup artist (Pacific Makeup Group) phones to discuss our upcoming makeup session for a photo shoot, and would I be Lady Gaga on a car decorated like a giant swan for Reflections Hair Design at the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade (June 02, 2012).  She says this in almost one giant breath.
I’m thinking – this is either going to be a really bad move, or  my life’s calling.
Now that it’s over, I’m wondering how I can get a job riding around on floats all the time. You know, like in different cities around the world wearing full costume and makeup. My husband informs me, yah, they call them beauty pageants. Oops, too late for that. And then the penny drops as to why I catch myself engrossed in television shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
I just heard myself say all that in an East Texas accent, ya’ll.
Yes, I have problems, ya’ll.
I embrace big hair and false eyelashes, ya’ll .
I love Dolly ya’ll!
Reflections Hair Design is owned and operated by June Kolodziejak. She and her husband Darryl (float driver), Amanda (paper mache expert) , Dillon (candy thrower) and their whole team at Reflections made a giant swan out of paper mache and feathers, including a whole head and tail. They put a lot of work into that swan, and I wanted to make sure I helped them showcase their company as best I could.
The morning started at Reflections (across from Windsor Park, Oak Bay) at 7:00 am for makeup and hair. Jen Clark did my makeup, and June did the hair.
And then we went on the parade ride, and it was over. And then I saw Alice in Wonderland and the Giant Rabbit, and it was just another surreal day at Willows Beach. You know what I mean
A BIG Congratulations to Reflections Hair Design for winning 2nd place for best Commercial Float!
