I have to wait for this painting to dry before I confirm whether it is complete or not, but I’d say it’s pretty close. This is the first painting I have completed in oil (outside of the class I took down in Santa Fe). There was a learning curve in terms of the colour consistency, and the transparency of different paints with medium, but I think I’ve got the initial hang of it. Naturally, the next one will be easier. So here she is – the last painting of 2010 called Mermaid Squirrel: Standing on Her Own Two Feet.
The subject matter is reflective of both my return to swimming for exercise, being inspired by Efren Quiroz’s collection of mermaids, and my change of business focus. For the last 13 years as the owner of Star Global Advanced IT Corp. Ltd., I’ve had a business partner (Graham Nott). Â Now operating as Carollyne Yardley Omnimedia, I go alone, and stand on my own two feet. I’m very excited at what the future has in store for me. Happy New Year to all. Here are two previous posts about this painting (post 1, post 2)

“Whenever we need a pick-me-up, Piper and I drift toward your website. There always is something to make us chuckle.
Mermaid is just too adorable. Her straight-forward gaze and the jaunty angle of her tail fin depict a bold and assured approach to life. I do detect, however, a commendable and subtle humbleness lying just beneath the surface.
The acorn trident resting confidently in her long-gloved pectoral appendage is brilliant! The hose and shoes go without saying. Piper thinks the twinkle in her eye is for him.”
